Abstract

Currently, a company’s competitiveness in the market depends on its productivity in efficiently using its available resources. Low productivity is a recurring problem in the furniture sector due to low production process efficiency, resulting in the failure to deliver orders. For this reason, businesses focus on seeking manufacturing systems that enable them to efficiently control their processes, eliminating any waste or activity that generates downtime, to achieve higher customer satisfaction. This research explores a work case at a small Peruvian business in the furniture sector, which is facing the problem of a large amount of unfulfilled orders on a monthly basis that has resulted in lost sales of 8%. The results showed a positive impact in which the new improved methods in the cutting and edging process, as well as a new plant layout enabled operations and activities to be performed in less time, increasing productivity from 42.5% to 64.20%.
