Abstract
Objective: determine the relationship between asthenopia and the viewing distance and luminescence of LCD screen monitors in administrative workers of a construction company. Material and Methods: We carried out a case-control study with a sample of 67 cases with asthenopia and 67 controls. We used multivariate logistic regression to establish the associations between viewing distance and luminescence with asthenopia, reporting Odds Ratios with 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: The average age of the sample was 38.9±7.1 years, 67.2% had inadequate visual distance and 89.6% had inadequate LCD screen luminescence. Multivariate logistic regression showed a greater possibility of asthenopia when there is inadequate visual distance (OR=3.72; 95% CI: 1.51-9.15) and when the luminescence of the screen is inadequate (OR=3.16; 95% CI:%:1.07-9.35). Conclusions: visual distance and LCD screen luminescence were independently related to the presence of asthenopia in administrative workers.
