Abstract

Economic penalties have been imposed when there are long waiting times in low-income health centers in Peru; this problem is a crucial cause of the deficient global assessment on the national health level. Within this context, a model is presented that combines diagnostic and solution tools based on applying the Lean Healthcare philosophy within the parameters of Good Storage Practices, demand forecasting, system simulation, and Gemba Kaizen formats. Among the results obtained, the average daily waiting times were reduced by 63.89% simultaneously, process times were decreased by 12.62%, and reject patients by 2%.
