Abstract
Traditional clay brick production generates significant greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to the depletion of non-renewable natural resources. At the same time, eggshell, a common by-product of the food industry, is often discarded, also causing environmental pollution. This research work evaluates the feasibility of using eggshell ash for brick production, assessing its impact on mechanical, environmental, and economic properties compared to traditional clay brick, thus seeking an environmentally friendly alternative. The incorporation of eggshell ash in brick manufacturing presents opportunities and challenges within the construction materials sector. Laboratory tests indicate that optimal mechanical properties are achieved with a specific proportion of eggshell ash content. The methodology includes destructive and non-destructive tests, as well as a carbon footprint assessment and a cost-benefit analysis. The results suggest that eggshell ash bricks are not only technically feasible but also contribute to sustainability and efficient waste management by reducing the carbon footprint. However, they may be more expensive depending on the method of obtaining the raw material and the operating costs.
