Abstract

The research investigates how prominent Facebook entertainment groups in Peru, particularly influential in the 2022 post-pandemic context, subtly normalize hate speech through anonymity across two groups. Through a detailed content analysis of 200 posts, the study reveals that anonymous profiles facilitate the widespread dissemination of racist and derogatory content, primarily targeting vulnerable communities. The surge in social media usage has intensified interactions within these groups, allowing users to share content without facing consequences for hate speech. The study highlights the pressing need for enhanced content moderation, educational initiatives, and advanced detection technologies. It underscores the importance of understanding cultural and societal dynamics that perpetuate hate speech. Collaborative efforts among social media platforms, civil society, and policymakers are essential to devise effective strategies to combat online hate and promote inclusivity.
