Abstract
Introduction: The incorporation of digital technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI), is transforming teaching and research practices in higher education. This research evaluates the impact of AI on research processes, in a subject of research project development in a graduate school in Peru, from the delimitation of the topic to the discussion and drawing of conclusions. Methodology: A qualitative approach and a case study with ten student teams were used. The techniques used included semi-structured interviews, documentary analysis and direct observation. Results: AI significantly improved investigative capacity through automation and precision in data management. However, challenges were observed in technological integration, due to the lack of some prior skills on the part of both some students and teachers. Discussions: The results highlight the duality between the potential of AI to advance research and the barriers to its effective integration. Conclusions: AI has transformative potential in academic research; however, proper implementation and training is necessary to maximize its benefits.
