Abstract
Based on Wodak's Historical Discourse Approach (2003), this research aims to analyze the dis-courses that were generated in the Lima newspaper Gaceta del Gobierno de Lima Independiente to represent the events related to the Independence of Peru in 1821. Methodologically, we selected the news, articles, and proclamations of the newspaper found in the facsimile edition of Gaceta del Gobierno de Lima Independiente (volumes I, II and III). The analyzed data ranges from the first edition of the newspaper, July 16, 1821, to those published in September 1821. The results indicate that the newspaper represents and characterizes, according to its adopted position, the "patriots" positively, the "enemies" negatively, and expresses a nascent feeling of freedom and nationality for Peru as a new independent nation.
