Abstract

In this study the author systematically organizes 28 pieces of research related to LGBTQ+ Studies and audiovisual translation (2000-2020). The studies selected have been synthesized into theoretical and conceptual categories. Using metasynthesis as a qualitative method to analyze research literature, the study aims to establish the current state of research into audiovisual texts (film, television, Internet) that address the representation of sexual diversity as well as sexual identities and their transference through linguistic systems. Theoretical aspects are categorized into audiovisual translation as a concept, sexuality, and the usage of language commonly known as gayspeak and camp talk. While the study does not have an evaluative aim, it points out the scope and limitations of published research and proposes viable theoretical and methodological future directions.
