Thoracic renal ectopia in children: A case report and literature review

Renal ectopia is an uncommon anomaly, with the majority of cases localized to the pelvic region. The thoracic kidney constitutes 5 % of the total kidney mass and typically does not manifest symptoms. Case report, 10-year-old male was referred to the outpatient urology clinic to investigate the absence of the left kidney. At the time of consultation, no respiratory or urological symptoms were reported. Chest CT revealed a left kidney located in the thoracic region without evidence of lithiasis or hydronephrosis. In conclusion he diagnosis of thoracic renal ectopia is usually incidental, and expectant management is recommended in asymptomatic patients.
