Abstract
A solution to the problem of large absolute base displacements in isolated structures under earthquakes is developed. It is based on the transmissibility concept of mechanical engineering. The development can serve as a design procedure for base-isolation systems in buildings. The results show that the base displacement level can be reduced to under the ground displacement level of actual seismic events. Published by Elsevier Science Ltd.
