Abstract

This research describes the representations of Venezuelan migrants in Peruvian newspapers of mass circulation, specifically in newspapers such as El Comercio, Trome and Exitosa. The main objective is to analyze the representations that are constructed about the life of Venezuelan migrants in Peru through the headlines of these newspapers. The corpus with which we worked were newspaper headlines in their digital version. A textual analysis is carried out and the modes of representation of excluded and included social actors according to Van Leeuwen’s (1996) categories are identified. The article concludes that the participation of a social actor in controversial news or in the assignment of responsibilities is minimized and Venezuelan migrants are included in news of favorable contexts or in the narration of significant events, so that their representation is positive. However, the digital press does not fail to make negative representations about migrants, when it describes them as “criminals”.
