Abstract

Productivity in the AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) sector has maintained very low improvement records compared to other industries. One of the main reasons for this slow growth in productivity has been the slow adoption of available methodologies and technologies for better communication and integration of stakeholders. Regarding monitoring activity, the traditional redaction-based method, which involves visual inspection and human interpretation, has proven to be slow and imprecise compared to current technology supported alternatives. The use of this method implies a reduction in the ability of managers to monitor the real performance of the project. Therefore, in order to achieve an objective representation of the state of progress of the work, this article proposes the integration of photogrammetric laser scanner technology integrated into the ICE (Integrated Concurrent Engineering) meetings, component of the VDC (Virtual Design and Construction) methodology, in order to achieve a more precise, agile, efficient and integrated progress of the work. Initially, the article presents a summary of the literature review carried out on the laser scanner and the ICE meetings. From this, its viability and synergies were analyzed. Then, the methodologies for the survey using the photogrammetric scanner tool, the implementation of ICE meetings and the use of the collaborative virtual platform MIRO were proposed. These were evaluated using the expert judgment tool and the feedback on the proposal was documented. Finally, the qualitative benefits of the implementation of this synergy, regarding the improvement in the quality of information, integration of stakeholders and better decision makingare exposed.
