Resumen
This preliminary and exploratory study reports the construction of an instrument to facilitate the identification and description of the motivations and perceived difficulties for doing research among university teachers. Participants were 86 teachers from three universities (two private and one public), located in Metropolitan Lima (Peru). Analyses were internal consistency and factoring items. A structure of two motives (prosocial and self orientation) and three difficulties (personal, task of research, and context) was found; the items in each level showed good discrimination and adequate levels of internal consistency, and moderately correlated. There are no published studies on this topic, and these early results ensure standardized to quantify the motivations and challenges for research instrument. However, replication studies are required.
