N2 - This study assesses the impact of digital media on the media consumption habits of Generation Z in Peru, based on a sample of 300 respondents. It emphasizes the shift from traditional media to digital platforms, especially social media, which has become the primary news source for this demographic. The findings reveal Generation Z’s preference for instant, engaging content tailored by algorithms on platforms like TikTok and YouTube, enhancing user interaction and content personalization. This generation’s skepticism toward traditional media is marked by their inclination toward dynamic and ephemeral content, signaling a decline in trust toward traditional journalism and a rise in civic engagement through digital channels. The methodology included analyzing survey responses to gauge the effects of digital media on public opinion and civic engagement among young Peruvians. This highlights the need for journalism to adapt to the changing expectations of younger audiences, ensuring the accuracy and depth of information. The research underscores the critical role of digital platforms in shaping how Generation Z engages with news, suggesting that these platforms could be pivotal in enhancing media literacy. It calls for media strategies that promote a discerning consumption of news, fostering a well-informed and critically engaged citizenry.
