N2 - This study analyzes the background and current problems experienced by companies in the plastics sector due to the ban on the manufacturing, distribution, and use of conventional bags. Simultaneously, the internal problems of manufacturing have been identified within the company, such as machine shutdown and inadequate use of personnel, thus generating manufacturing waste and downtime in plastic bag production. Therefore, a lean manufacturing model is proposed through a biotechnological approach at a small company operating within the plastics sector, where solution techniques such as 5S methodology, business process management, and biotechnology will be used to generate an efficient production of biodegradable bags, which is the primary outcome of this implementation and is as an alternative to conventional plastic. Hence, an innovative product will be created that guarantees economic, social, and environmental viability in the plastics sector businesses.
