Resumen
The Peruvian furniture manufacturing industry has faced a sustained decline in operational productivity and competitiveness, a trend that has been intensified by growing market demands, supply chain disruptions, and technological lag. This study addresses the performance gap observed at Huarcaya Group, a medium-sized enterprise dedicated to customized furniture production. The firm exhibits a suboptimal operational efficiency level of 61%, below the national industry benchmark of 67%. The root causes identified through technical, spatial, and economic analysis include poor facility layout, nonexistent preventive maintenance protocols, and the lack of standardized work methods. Drawing from methodologies broadly endorsed in the industrial engineering domain, the study proposes a strategic intervention integrating Systematic Layout Planning (SLP), Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Standardized Work (SW). These tools are applied synergistically to reconfigure the physical workspace, enhance asset reliability, and stabilize task execution across operations. Comparative literature demonstrates these methods' effectiveness in similar manufacturing contexts, including automotive, agro-industrial, and light assembly sectors. The proposal aims to elevate the efficiency index to a minimum of 67%, thereby restoring competitive parity and setting a precedent for replicability within similar Peruvian enterprises. The findings are expected to provide empirical insights that reinforce the strategic role of industrial engineering in systemic performance recovery.
