N2 - The development of road infrastructure in a country is of vital importance due to its great economic and social contribution, therefore, the application of the latest emerging technologies is important that optimize their process to ensure its correct operation and required quality. The implementation of the Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology offers a modern approach benefits and intelligent management within the life cycle of a project; however, in the infrastructure sector it has presented challenges and limitations. Therefore, this study aims to propose workflows in the design and planning stage for the adoption of BIM, in this way, obtain the benefits of its application. The study area is a highway in southern Peru (San Miguel - Mollepata, Ayacucho), where the BIM model at the design stage improved the visual projection of the scope of the project in a real context, likewise, the exchange of information through a single environment and shared with those involved avoided computational reprocesses. In addition, in the planning stage improvements are shown in in the programming, control and monitoring of road activities by means of virtual construction, thus intelligent project management and efficient resolution of problems that the project may present during implementation is achieved. The results of the research achieved the reduction of execution time by 10.71%, as well as the reduction of costs by 2.63%.
