Resumen
Pedestrian accessibility is a critical component of urban sustainability and public safety. In many Latin American cities, inadequate intersection design contributes to delays and heightened risks for pedestrians. This study examines an intersection in Lima, Peru, characterized by poor signage and inefficient geometry. Tools such as AutoCAD, PTV VISSIM, and drones were used to model the current conditions and develop road redesign proposals based on recommendations from the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO). Through microsimulation analysis, the impact of the proposed improvements was evaluated, including geometric optimization and the redistribution of space between pedestrians and vehicles. The results show a 10.4% reduction in pedestrian travel times and an increase in safety, highlighting the effectiveness of interventions focused on sustainable mobility. This work contributes to urban planning by offering a replicable model for improving accessibility in similar areas.
