Resumen
This study analyzes and interprets the opinions of photographers, curators, historians, and custodians who are photography experts and work at cultural institutions situated in Lima (Peru), to understand the roles that should be adopted by photography to encourage the recognition of the historical value and cultural identity of Peruvians. Through a qualitative approach and using an ethnographic design, semistructured interviews were conducted with ten photography specialists with twenty years of experience. Thus, it could be determined that the roles required by photography to achieve recognition of the historical value and the identity of Peruvians are dissemination and education; preservation; archive and research; management and policies; and construction of the Peruvian history through photographs, memory, and identity.
