Resumen
This article studies “Sendero Luminoso's” depiction of José Carlos Mariátegui in the years leading up to the beginning of the internal armed conflict in Peru from the theoretical perspective of framework analysis. It is suggested that this portrayal revealed the necessity to insufflate heroic attributes that correspond to the utopian Andean tradition in the salient initial “Sendero Luminoso” militants to symbolically prepare them for armed conflict. By associating Mariátegui to said tradition, the study relativizes SL's apparent rejection towards the Andean cultural imprint and evidences his strategic use of this concept when consolidating his political objectives.
